Also known as 'deadmonton' due to our generally bleek winter night life, and super high homicide rates, artists here tend to have a lot of time to develop their skills yet remain off the radar within the urban genre. From our international sensations like Cadence Weapon and Kreesha Turner, to our up and coming sensations like Quanteisha Benjamin, to our dark underground hip hop scene, Edmonton has a lot to offer to the Canadian urban scene. This coming October in Kelowna, BC the Western Canadian Music Alliance will hold the 8th Annual Western Canadian Music Awards. This Award show is accompanied by 1) a Festival that will showcase music acts from all genres in Western Canada, 2) a conference to help educate Western Canadian artists about the music business, and 3) an Award show that will celebrate the best in Western Canadian Music over the last year.
